Beginning of the Endyir8.nta.71.jpg

It all started when this guy covered his face with his hand -- the last news shot I took. That was nine months ago, enough for gestation, you might say. Since then the country has been in the news more that it used to be. I am a photographer and news is my cue. For the first time since I started working as a photographer thirteen years ago, I am being prevented from practicing my profession in my own country freely.

So, I thought I’d give a shot at being a homemaker, cooking and cleaning, shopping, etc. But I soon learned that I couldn't do it. Looking from the window of my kitchen, I saw women in other buildings skillfully doing what they were supposed to be doing. They cooked, sat on the couch and took care of their babies. These are not easy chores. It just looks easy. They make it look easy.

Meanwhile, our cat was shedding all over the house and the eggs kept burning on me.

I ended up behind the computer, following the news like an addict looking for a fix. I grew jealous of those who don't feel the need to go after adventure and excitement. No, they are not after that kind of glory. It seemed that half my brain wanted to adapt to a daily, normal life, while the other half was constantly looking for ways to go where the news was, camera in hand.

I admonished myself for throwing the towel in, for being jealous of housewives. Then again, we all have talents in different areas and carry different wishes.

End

If you cannot breathe with your nose, you find a way to breath with your mouth. The same is true with photography. So I started experimenting with new yir8.nta.73.jpgideas. I realized that only I could change things. So, when I pulled myself together, the picture was no longer that under-exposed.

And I came up with this project: Looking for people who had never before seen the sea. What would it be like to see the sea through their eyes? How would the experience reflect in their expressions? Here are some examples.
